There are TWO classes inside junior drag racing, one is Junior Modified (JM) and the other Junior Stock (JS)

Junior Modified is open for any one aged between 12 and 17. Most modified cars have chrome-moly chassis. Engines must be based on a 5hp Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine but they are highly modified running on methanol with many billet parts and massive over bores, they can be bore out to around 390cc from the original 270cc and produce up to 50hp, they cover the 1/8th mile in low 9.0 and high to mid 8 second runs at around 70mph, next year there is a possiblity of one or two cars running low 8's and even 7.9s! The fastest modifieds are allowed to run is, 7.90@85mph if you are 13 or older and 8.90@85mph if you are 12, no junior modified outside the USA has run 7.90, the quickest and fastest is held by the UK's Phill cook who has now retired he ran 8.30@80mph.

Junior Stock is as it says completely stock, using mild steel chassis and bascily lawn mower engines despite theur humble beginings expect to see these cars run low 15 second runs at around 40 mph. To run stock you must be at least 8 years old and can race in stock until you are 17 the same as modified although most people go the modified at age 12 or 13. The fastest stock are allowed to run is 12.90 though no one in the UK is near that the record being 13.92@43mph by the UK's Joe Bond this is the record outside of the USA also.
